Rohan Weliwita with Suseema on the net

Rohan Welivita’s film “Suseema” is the first movie in Sri Lanka to be shot in HD. The 70s cartoon strip and subsequently the highly successful television series of the 80s will hit the silver screen on July 8 this year. Last week, the film’s website was launched at the National Film Corporation premises amidst a distinguished gathering.

The movie is produced by Dr. A. S. P. Liyanage.

It’s the story of a struggling music group befriended by a rich hotel owner Mr. Suradeva. He gives them the chance to prove their talent and the boys take on the challenge and shine. They become a successful band. The hotel owner’s daughter “Suseema” falls in love with the leader of the group Ranga. Pradeep, the son of the manager of the hotel also fancies “Suseema”. He is into drug dealings with Mike, a friend from the States, and to complicate matters they introduce it to Asela, Ranga’s partner who is the songwriter and lead guitarist in the group. He gets ‘hooked’ on it and deteriorates into a unreal world. The hotel owner comes to know of this and the group gets sacked. Pradeep and his friend Mike’s plan have succeeded. Suseema, who had become an integral part of the band as its female vocalist is devastated. She goes on a hunger strike and is hospitalized. Asela too.
