HMD and Dialog Axiata have introduced the HMD 101 4G and HMD 102 4G in Sri Lanka, bringing another option for users who prefer a physical keypad and straightforward calling features, Daily FT reported on 5 October.
The launch positions the devices within the transition from older mobile technology to 4G, while retaining the familiar feature-phone format.
What the announcement says
According to the launch report, the range supports 4G voice calling through VoLTE, dual SIM use and USB Type-C charging. The HMD 102 4G adds a camera.
The companies present the phones as practical devices for everyday communication. That positioning is a vendor claim, rather than the result of an independent Sandeshaya product test.
Familiar controls still have a place
A keypad handset may appeal to someone whose main requirement is making calls, or who wants a secondary phone. Buyers should nevertheless check the exact model’s features against their own needs.
In particular, a 4G label should not be treated as a promise that a phone can run every application associated with a smartphone.
Details buyers should confirm
The cited announcement does not provide a retail price. Local availability, warranty terms and any bundled offer should be checked with the seller before purchase.
Readers should also avoid interpreting the launch as a confirmed date for the closure of Sri Lanka’s 2G networks. The report describes a product launch and a migration direction, rather than announcing a nationwide shutdown deadline.
